Adam Powell School - New York, NY
There is no doubt that PS 153, Adam Powell School, in New York City, is a PeaceBuilders school! The proof can be seen all over the campus, from the way people treat each other to the displays and murals that decorate the walls.

One very charming mural depicts a young girl building peace by smiling and tending a garden. The words are reminders that we can build peace wherever we go.

This inspiring mural reminds students and staff alike to praise each other because the more people we praise, the better we feel, and the more people appreciate us.

This display shows two boys who have given up put-downs so they can get along
and play basketball together.

This mural features the character, Fern, from Charlotte's Web. She is seeking the council of a very wise character from the book: Charlotte the spider.

The young people in this mural are reading a book together. Their closeness shows they have righted any wrongs between them.

There is even a PeaceBuilders display in the library at PS 153. Hanging next to the Pledge poster are PraiseNotes written and signed by one PeaceBuilder to another.

We praise the library staff for their ingenuity and resourcefulness. They have selected a book of the month that corresponds to the particular PeaceBuilders Principle the entire school is focusing on each month.

At PS 153, PeaceBuilders is included in daily lessons and activities. Whether they are working on Language Arts or Social Studies, whether they are in class, at the cafeteria, or in the library PeaceBuilders is part of their consciousness and part of their routine.

We are proud to share the visual cues this site uses to remind children and staff of their PeaceBuilders identity. These visual reminders are strong reinforcement for the PS 153 family and a loud endorsement of peace to all visitors. The more peace we see, the more peace we are likely to build.
