San Diego Center for Children - San Diego, CA
There is no doubt that PeaceBuilders workshops for staff are fun events. During the Essentials Workshop for new sites, staff members learn about PeaceBuilders with hands-on activities and instruction that enables them to begin putting the program into practice comfortably and effectively the very next day.

The interactive activities and discussions conducted during PeaceBuilders workshops reconnect staff to each other and to their common goal to provide a safe, nurturing environment that helps young people learn and grow.

During the recent Essentials Workshop at San Diego Center for Children, the staff's cohesiveness was evident in the way they greeted each other in the morning. Their strong sense of family and friendship became more evident as they worked together on lessons and activities during the training.

When asked to consider their own individual visions of peace, the staff brainstormed a revealing list of things they would like to see, hear and feel more of at their site.

Smiling faces, laughter and a feeling of relaxed contentment are just some of the aspects individuals value and want to see more of at the San Diego Center for Children.
After thinking about and discussing their individual vision of peace, teams were asked to develop a common vision of a peaceful site that they could share with the entire group-something visual and enlightening.

One group created a poem to demonstrate their common vision.

In just a few short minutes, this team clearly and powerfully expressed the point that peace is contagious-spread by our own actions. It often begins small (like the smallest flower) and it springs from a collective human need (from our "universal mind").
Another enthusiastic group of new PeaceBuilders decided to share their vision in the form of a song.

They created a poster to depict their group vision and sang the Beatles' tune "All You Need is Love" to the delight of their colleagues. The words of the song express their desire to spread peace by showing
love and understanding.
The entire staff at San Diego Center for Children explored their creativity and used their desire to make learning fun as they engaged in these activities that they are sure to recreate with the young people in their care.

When a staff is this involved and engaged in PeaceBuilders from the start-when they show this much enthusiasm at the training, and when they are eager to begin implementing right away, we know great things are about to happen.

Experts say, good or bad, "you get what you expect." Our experience with SDCC leads us to expect their success using the PeaceBuilders program. Beyond that, this cohesive staff has shown that they are on the way to creating an environment where these special young people will thrive and learn the skills necessary to build peace in their own lives and to spread peace to others.

We can't wait to see our expectations fulfilled. Onward SDCC! We support you every step of the way.
