Charlton Street Elementary - Southbridge, MA
We are pleased to feature Charlton Street Elementary School by presenting some of the many ways they demonstrate their PeaceBuilders passion and commitment.

This exceptional PeaceBuilders Showcase site goes above and beyond all expectations to create and maintain an environment focused on peace and on helping children become PeaceBuilding leaders of the future.

The young people at Charlton Street are supported and encouraged by adults who recognize and reward their positive, peaceful behavior. PraiseBoards can be found in every classroom at Charlton Street, and children here have learned the power of giving and receiving praise on a regular basis.
This beautiful, creative PraiseBoard combines student art and PraiseNotes.
All the children in this classroom chose a PeaceBuilding goal and drew a self-portrait to hang on their PraiseBoard.
Along with the many PraiseBoards, there are various other PeaceBuilders displays adorning the walls of Charlton Street School. These displays help motivate students and staff to continually practice their PeaceBuilding skills and leave no doubt that this is a PeaceBuilders site!
This PeaceBuilders display entitled “Bright Changes: PeaceBuilders Blossom through the Year” includes peaceful messages at the center of each flower.
This adorable display includes the PeaceBuilders Principles and Pledge (at bottom) along with character traits and desirable behaviors expected of the children.
This display of kites entitled “PeaceBuilders Soar” includes individual kites decorated with peaceful visions. The tie on each kite conveys a peaceful message.
At Charlton Street School, there are even PeaceBuilders display boards that reveal the academic development of the children. The school’s PeaceBuilders identity is evident in the daily school work children complete. No matter what the subject of study, PeaceBuilders is part of the discussion. For example, one group of children practiced their writing skills by detailing how they build peace.
Children were asked to write an essay explaining how they build peace at home, at school and in their community each day.
One of the many reasons for Charlton Street Elementary School’s PeaceBuilding success stems from their inclusion of PeaceBuilders Principles and language into their school decorations and their core curriculum. We are proud to share their creative techniques for infusing PeaceBuilders into the work they do every day. This site does not merely practice building peace, they have made it part of their identity. They are PeaceBuilders at play and at work each and every day.
